I agree, and been pretty inactive lately and the first thing I see in the forum are just discuciones that have nothing to do with the main theme to try and give the answers to 1000 laps of the last person to respond in the forum.

I have to admit that I have been subject to these useless 1 line topics. I am hoping this forum will eventually start acting like a community. I am getting to know other members due to the IRC channel (which can get pretty empty) and am hoping to make some friends here . Hopefully we'll lower the number...

You just have to make a racket... sometimes we get sleepy
See look... I just poked you in irc =P
Actually I feel like IRC is more active than the forums sometimes... though most of the people on in IRC aren't that active in the forums. >.<

Alright... I'll be sure to spam as much as I possibly can to make sure that your computer makes a racket and gets you completely distracted from the surgery you are performing on your mother's torso.

I have to give it to ikari.
I find it quit unfair because I'm a busy person and I try to be active in aost. I don't have all the time in my hands to read everything so sometimes I answer immediately from the users question without bothering on reading other peoples posts or comments. Now some topics like anime discussion i can follow through... from where I started posting till the end. Just sighting examples.
actually I'm one of those who post and leave some thread because there's no more to it.

Uh, no. The best way to generate a community is to allow traffic of any kind. Traffic begets traffic. As it stands, we lack a core community that would be able to sustain a conversation. As inane as a lot of the shit the new people post, what the fuck can you do? The only way to work it out is to have that one real poster out of fifty or a hundred spammers to stay. AOST had a real community back then because it was big enough to create one. The only way to allow that to happen is to allow any kind of posts. Sure, you can try to enforce where these posts go, and the such, but the make-up should be allowed to stand as is, since draconian measures intended to force out universally long responses from posters will only drive them away.

Uh, no dude, you weren't here for the time period Saga is referring to, mostly in '05 through '06. We were a relatively small community, yet extremely tight-knit. Everybody knew everybody. This didn't really change until around late '06-'07 or so (my recollection of dates isn't perfect), when A) a flood of new users started coming in, and B) the site underwent a series of extremely long downtimes. These combined factors effectively splintered the existing community and left a swarm of new members who were less committed to maintaining the forum community in its wake. Between then and now it gradually deteriorated into what we have today, which while it may not seem so bad to people who joined during the "Second Age" of AOST, is a pale shadow of the community in its early days. Back then, I can honestly say it was like no other website I've ever encountered - a true, living COMMUNITY. The only people on this very thread who were around at the height of the community are Saga, Karuro, Bluey, Sheratan, S. Rose, and myself. Sure, we had our spats and rivalries - most of us were young and foolish back then (myself not least of all, as some people on this thread can attest to) - but there's something about the closeness of that community that I want back. I'm just not sure how we would go about attaining that.
Also, COMMUNITY. Have I used that word enough?

that aside...
you cannot solve something by making a thread about fixing something, that is clearly impossible to do.
Why? Check the average member of this forum.
It's not in them to post long answers.
Nor is it in them to read more than is necessary.

I think his point was just to create a round table for interested parties to brainstorm possible solutions the problem that we all pretty much agree is... a problem.
