I appologize if this was already posted, but there's like 12 pages and I didn't want to read all of them XP.
Inuyasha:
Because it is awesome
because the godess of manga, Rumiko Takahashi made it.
Summary: Kagome lives at the Higurashi shrine, which has been run by her family for generations. One day, before leaving for school, she was asked to retrieve her cat, Buyo, from the well-house. When she tried to search around the well, a giant centipede demon suddenly burst out of the well and dragged her in. She was dragged into the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States) Era.
Running away from the demon, she comes upon a tree with a boy, a hanyou (half demon), sealed to it with a sacred arrow. When she touches it the boy wakes up, and spouts hateful words at her. Apparently she looks like his long dead lover, Kikyou. When the Centipede catches up to her she releases him and he kills the demon, but not before the centipede slashes Kagome and releases the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls), a powerful jewel, from her body. When Inuyasha attacks her to take the jewel, she subdues him with a special necklace, which can be activated when she yells "Osuwari (Sit)!"
A crow demon tried to fly off with the jewel, and she shoots it, accidentally breaking up the jewel, which disperses all over Japan. During their Journey they make several friends, including the Taijiya(Demon Slayer) Sango, the perverted Budhist monk Miroku, and the Kitsune kit Shippo. Now she and Inuyasha, along with their companions, must journey around and collect all the Jewel shard before the evil hanyou, Naraku, does. Travel back in tme for a feudal fairytale, Inuyasha!
Themes:
Fantasy
Swordfights
Demons
Time Travel
Big Swords
Violence (although very little blood)
Cursing (mostly Inuyasha)
Why I recommend it:
Besides the fact that it's Rumiko Takahashi (which would make me watch it anyway), the characters are well developed, all with intricate backstories and full character design. I can't think of, aside from the run of the mill baddies they encounter, any flat characters. No one does anything
because they are evil/good. Even the main villain, Naraku, has explained motivations for his actions. The episodes move at a decent pace, so it's always interesting (no DBZ syndrome here). The storyline is both engaging and entertaining, so it keeps the audience interest. Entertaining for all ages, because of the cool fights and lovable characters (I just love Shippo), while at the same time portraying serious societal and racial issues. Most importantly, it's finished, so no waiting (see Inuyasha: The Final Act).
Rating: 10 Shikon Jewels out of 10.
